It is with great pride we welcome you to the Church of Scientology of Melbourne.
Originally founded in 1955, we are the oldest Scientology Church in Australia. We also hold the distinction of being the first Scientology Church in the Southern Hemisphere.
Our Church has long loomed large in Scientology history and will always be remembered for the visit of our Founder, L. Ron Hubbard, in November 1959, when he delivered a series of historic lectures. For it was then that he first revealed the route to Scientology’s highest levels.
Our Church today realises Mr. Hubbard’s vision that all Churches of Scientology become what he termed Ideal Organisations (Orgs). Ideal Orgs not only provide the ideal facilities to service Scientologists on their spiritual ascent, but they are also designed to serve as a home for the entire community as a meeting ground of cooperative effort to uplift citizens of all denominations.
Owing to the generosity of our parishioners, the dream of an Ideal Org in Melbourne is a reality. And while ribbons will fall on further new Churches across Australia, Melbourne takes its rightful place for all time as the first to open an Ideal Org beneath the Southern Cross.
Our doors are open. Our help is yours.
The History of
The new Church of Scientology of Melbourne stands on a mid 19th century estate, known as Ailsa. The name derives from a Scottish island not far from where original owner, Robert McCracken, hailed. The head of one of Melbourne’s first families, McCracken founded the now legendary Essendon Football Club and, in 1873, the team played its first match on this very estate. Thus, Ailsa entered the annals of Australian sporting folklore.
Thousands of Scientologists, dignitaries and guests from across the nation celebrated a milestone on January 29, 2011—the opening of the first Ideal Scientology Church in Australia.
